Living in the city center of Thonon

Living in the city center of Thonon

Like its neighbor Evian-les-Bains, Thonon enjoys the setting of Lake Geneva, a veritable inland sea and the largest lake in Western Europe. We find ourselves between sea and mountain.

History of Thonon-les-Bains

Thonon-les-Bains draws its history from hydrotherapy. It was between 1885 and 1888 that a local entrepreneur, Jean Blanc, coordinated the construction of the first thermal establishment in the town. It was at this precise moment that Thonon became Thonon-les-Bains.

It is therefore the clientele of spa guests who have enabled the development of Thonon-les-Bains. Indeed, the number of tourists increased from year to year. This allowed the creation and development of various local and craft businesses.

Later, Thonon-les-Bains saw the construction of numerous villas and hotels in order to attract a more affluent and demanding clientele.

Thonon-les-Bains town center

Capital of the Savoyard Chablais, Thonon-les-Bains is the second city of Haute-Savoie after Annecy. Located a few steps from the Swiss border and the canton of Valais, the city was able to attract cross-border workers who quickly settled in the city center of Thonon-les-Bains, in particular to benefit from the lake and the beautiful walks offered by this spa town. More than that, the city also offers various cultural activities. Many places are to visit throughout the year in the town of Thonon-les-Bains such as the Chablais museum or the castle of Ripaille.

In terms of catering, the city center offers a plurality of restaurateurs. Due to its proximity to the lake and its geographical location, the town of Thonon-les-Bains offers many restaurants specializing in Savoy and fish. There are also a few grills, snacks and fast food services in the city center.
